Help with FamilyWeek
How to set up FamilyWeek, and answers to what parents ask most. How your family adds appointments is in the guide to sharing calendars.
How to set it up
A few minutes, on the device that goes on the wall.
- Install FamilyWeek on the iPad or iPhone that goes on the wall, free from the App Store.
- Tap Start, then Continue, and allow access to your calendars.
- Who lives here? Type everyone's name, kids too. Everyone gets a colour.
- Whose calendar is it? Pick a person for each calendar. Leave a calendar of the whole family with Everyone.
- First chores: tap a few chores per person, or go on with Next.
- Night photos: pick an album, or skip it.
- Choose a parent code of four digits.
- Your board is ready. Tap Show the board and hang it up, on its charger.
Switch on Guided Access
So the device stays in FamilyWeek. Set it up once.
- Open the Settings app and tap Accessibility.
- Tap Guided Access and switch it on.
- Tap Passcode Settings, then Set Guided Access Passcode. Choose a code that only the parents know.
- Open FamilyWeek and press the side button three times quickly, or the Home button if the device has one.
- Tap Start at the top right. The board now stays on the screen. To stop, press three times again and type your code.
Questions
My calendars don't show.
First check whether the device on the wall has your calendars: open the Calendar app on that device. If they aren't there, follow the guide to sharing calendars. If they are, check in FamilyWeek under Parents, Calendars on the board that they're switched on.
A shared calendar doesn't appear.
- Accept the invitation on the device on the wall, in the Calendar app.
- The calendar has to be in iCloud, not under On My iPhone.
- Give it a few minutes.
A Google calendar is missing.
On the device on the wall, open calendar.google.com/calendar/syncselect, tick the calendar and tap Save. Then check in FamilyWeek under Parents, Calendars on the board.
Dinner isn't on the yellow note.
FamilyWeek reads dinner from a calendar called Meals, Eten, Maaltijden or Avondeten. Put it in as an evening appointment or as a whole day. Or tap the note and plan it right in FamilyWeek.
I forgot the parent code.
Tap Parents, then Forgot the code?. Solve the sum and choose a new code straight away.
The kids keep leaving the app.
Switch on Guided Access, see the steps above. Then the device stays in FamilyWeek until you type your code.
The screen goes off.
While the board shows, the screen stays on. Check in FamilyWeek under Parents, Screen that Keep the screen on is on, and keep the device on its charger. At night the board shows photos or a calm clock.
I don't see photos at night.
Under Parents, Night, pick an album for Night photos, and give FamilyWeek access to your photos. Did you give access to a few photos only? Then the board shows just those.
Are the chores on a second board too?
No. Every device is a board of its own, and chores and stars stay on that device. The calendars and dinner show on every board that has those calendars.
The app asks me to update.
Then this version of FamilyWeek is too old. Tap the button and update the app in the App Store. Your family, chores and settings are kept.
How do I remove everything?
Delete the app. That removes the family, the chores and the settings on that device. Your calendars stay as they are, the Meals calendar too: delete that yourself in the Calendar app if you like.
Does FamilyWeek cost anything?
No. FamilyWeek is free, with no subscription and no ads.
